Icy roadways force closure of parts of I-475, I-75

Icy road conditions have caused numerous crashes on Toledo expressways tonight, leading police to shut down I-475 westbound near the I-75 split. Other officers are working to close both northbound and southbound lanes of I-75 near Miami Street.

Police said that it s so cold that the rock salt is not working to melt ice on the highways.

The Ohio Department of Transportation has been called to assist.

Only minor injuries have been reported in the accidents.

Police declared a Phase 2 emergency about 5:40 p.m., meaning officers are responding only to injury accidents.

Motorists involved in non-injury accidents are asked to exchange insurance information and make accident reports at a police station later.
