Commentator Charles Barkley famously said that this year Ohio State’s men’s basketball team “lacked the elite players needed” to be a contender. He further denigrated OSU, all the while denying he was “hating on” the Buckeyes.

College basketball fans, in addition to getting some great games during the National Collegiate Athletic Association tournament, are now watching Mr. Barkley wipe an omelet off his face.

College basketball fans in Toledo have even more reason to smile. When the tournament resumes tonight, the remaining “Sweet 16” teams include the Michigan Wolverines, the Michigan State Spartans, the Indiana Hoosiers, and — sorry, Charlie — the Buckeyes, led to triumph by an amazing young man named Aaron Craft, of Findlay.

One of the great things about sports is that the “experts” are usually wrong. Things never go exactly the way that conventional wisdom dictates. That’s why they play the games.
