Whitmer students allegedly violate safe-school law

Three Whitmer High School students were charged yesterday with violating the safe-school ordinance after two of them threatened to bring guns to school on Monday and the other brought a gun to school in December, authorities said.

The boys, ages 14 and 15, were ordered held in the Child Study Institute during detention hearings in Lucas County Juvenile Court. They will remain in the facility until their next court appearances, authorities said.

A classmate told police she overheard two 14-year-olds talking during lunch period Thursday about bringing guns to the Washington Local school, 5601 Clegg Dr., and committing violence.

While officers were interviewing people yesterday about the rumored threats, they learned the 15-year-old brought a gun to school in December, police said.
