Perrysburg slates session on school system overview
3/22/2001Activities, achievements, and academics will be discussed during a state-of-the-schools meeting from 7 to 9 p.m. April 5 in the Perrysburg Junior High School auditorium.
The meeting is designed to provide residents with an overview of the school system, including information about finances and facilities.
With the upcoming shift of staff and students to the new high school and other buildings in the district, many people will be experiencing change, according to Superintendent Sharon Zimmers. “This will give us a chance to comprehensively review activities, achievements, and plans for the school district,” she said.
Perrysburg's new high school is slated to open Sept. 5. The old high school will become a junior high and the former junior high will house sixth-grade classes from the district's four elementary schools.
During the meeting six school administrators will address selected topics. Dr. Zimmers will talk about the state school district report card, sixth-grade transition plans, and enrollment.
The school board also has scheduled eight meetings to present information on the upcoming request for a 0.5 per cent increase in the district's income tax.
The first meeting will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. March 29 in the junior high school auditorium. The other meetings will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. April 17 in the junior high auditorium; 10 to 11 a.m. and from 1 to 2 p.m. April 30 in the board of education conference room in the junior high; and 1 to 2 p.m., 2 to 3 p.m., 3 to 4 p.m., and 7 to 8 p.m. May 1 in the Perrysburg Township hall, 26609 Lime City Rd.
The income tax increase, if approved by voters May 8, would raise about $3.45 million per year for three years to pay operating expenses. The district is facing a projected deficit next year.
