UT prepares administrative shuffle for new president

3/30/2001

The stage is set for some administrative shuffling at the University of Toledo once Dr. Daniel Johnson, provost at the University of Alaska at Anchorage, takes office this summer as UT's 15th president.

Interim President William Decatur, who also is the university's vice president for finance and business services, will become vice president for finance and administration July 1, James Tuschman, chairman of the UT board of trustees, announced yesterday.

Mr. Decatur's annual salary will be reduced from $200,000 to $150,000. His previous salary as vice president was $125,000.

Sandra Drabik, the current vice president for administrative services, will focus full time on handling the university's legal matters as general counsel, a position she now holds. Her salary will remain at $150,000 a year.

The two other members of UT's operating team will continue in their current roles for now, Mr. Tuschman said.

Dr. William Free will stay on as interim provost at $150,000 a year while a search committee is formed to find a permanent replacement. Dr. Free then will return to the faculty as an English professor.

Calvin Lawshe will continue as assistant to the president for community relations and interim vice president for student services. He is paid $125,000.

The changes are expected to be approved formally at the next meeting of the board of trustees on April 25, Mr. Tuschman said.
