Toledo teachers to vote on proposed agreement

4/24/2001

Teachers in the Toledo Public Schools vote today on a proposed contract.

The tentative settlement ended three months of negotiations aimed at producing a reform agreement that would allow for more collaboration between the administration and Toledo Federation of Teachers.

About 3,300 teachers, substitutes, and paraprofessionals are scheduled to meet at the Stranahan Theater for the ratification vote, according to union officials. The new contract would replace a three-year pact that expired Nov. 30, but which was extended twice.

The two sides negotiated over wages, a longer school day, and new procedures for evaluating teachers. The last general wage increase in the district occurred in December, 1999.

The school board has tentatively scheduled a hearing for 6 p.m. Tuesday at 420 East Manhattan Blvd., to take public comment before voting May 3.
