Modular classrooms worry Norwalk fire officials

NORWALK - The city's fire chief has concerns over the safety of modular classrooms at Maplehurst Elementary School.

Chief Bob Bores said the units, which were approved by the state, have combustible walls and are located in an area of low water pressure in the fire hydrants.

Chief Bores said the nearest hydrant is about 800 feet away.

Smoke detectors and fire alarm pull stations have been installed in every classroom, and the department has plans to drive a water tanker to the school in the event of a fire.
