University of Findlay begins building $7M sports center

FINDLAY - The University of Findlay has started building a $7 million sports complex on 20 acres of farmland near campus.

President Kenneth Zirkle said the Russ and Peg Armstrong Athletic Complex will include two football practice fields, a baseball and softball complex, an outdoor track surrounding a soccer or lacrosse field, and 10 tennis courts - at least two of them will be covered.

Each venue will include bleacher seating, and a two-story building will house locker rooms for football players and coaches' offices. A second building will house concession stands, the president said.

The complex, bordered by North Blanchard Street and Trenton Avenue, is located about a half mile from the center of campus.

Mr. Zirkle said some of the money for the complex was donated by Peg Armstrong in memory of her late husband. Additional funds will be raised as needed, he said.
