UT trustees elect chairwoman

The University of Toledo board of trustees yesterday elected Joan Uhl Browne chairwoman of the board for the next year, taking over the post from James Tuschman. Daniel Brennan was re-elected as vice chairman.

The meeting was the last for Ronald Langenderfer, whose nine-year term is over and whose replacement has not yet been named by Gov. Bob Taft.

In other business, the trustees:

Approved a $228 million general fund budget for 2003-2004 that includes about $20.5 million in additional revenue compared to last year.

Awarded a five-year contract for dining services to AVI Foodsystems Inc., of Warren, Ohio, for $10.5 million beginning Monday.
