Rossford City Council member Greg Marquette said he had a lot of explaining to do when his daughter - who just graduated from Rossford's Drug Abuse Resistance Education program - spotted his snuff box and accused him of being a drug addict.

“I had to explain to her that it wasn't a drug,” he said this week after the council heard the first reading of an ordinance to continue the city's support for the program in Rossford schools. “I've had two kids go through [the program], and it's been positive for them. They're aware of the negative impact drugs have on society.”

The council will likely renew funding for D.A.R.E. - a move contrary to the attitudes of Toledo and other communities around the county, who have chosen to drop the drug-abuse awareness project.

The council decided to review the ordinance rather than adopt it after first reading because information regarding Officer Hamilton's salary was unavailable.
