UT to drop 2 as permanent vice presidents

8/15/2002

The University of Toledo will not retain two interim vice presidents on a permanent basis, as proposed. It now will conduct a national search to fill the two posts, President Daniel Johnson announced yesterday.

Dr. Johnson had considered keeping David Lindsley, interim vice president for educational and information technology, and Dick Eastop, interim vice president for enrollment services, for a few more years. Both men came out of retirement to fill the posts two years ago.

A committee established to study the idea reported to the president this week that the proposal to forego a national search was viewed by many on campus as a departure from past practice and possibly illegal. Constituents also were concerned about not holding a search that could improve the administration's diversity.

Based upon the committee's report, Dr. Johnson said no further consideration will be given to the matter. The two vice presidents will remain in their positions on an interim basis, he said.
