New Delta campus enrolls 16 students

DELTA, Ohio - Sixteen students started classes Sept. 18 at the new Delta campus of Northwest State Community College, which is offering four courses in English, history, computers, and world religion this semester.

Administrators were hoping that more than 70 would enroll at the 100 Adams St. location, the college's first branch in Fulton County.

“It's a start,” Judy Ennis, director of community and corporate outreach, said. “Part of the problem is we started a little bit later than when students are usually thinking of going to college.”

Classes began in mid-September because they will only last 12 weeks, as compared to the 16-week semesters offered at the college's other campuses.

Traditional and nontraditional students are on the Delta campus. Some are registered at other campuses but are taking a class in Delta because it fits well into their schedule.

The college, based five miles south of Archbold, draws at least 15 percent of its students from eastern Fulton County. The new location, 18 miles from the main campus, targets the Delta, Swanton, and Wauseon area. The branch will be subsidized by the college's other campuses this year.

Ms. Ennis said the college expects to double enrollment in Delta next semester.
