An 18-year-old University of Toledo freshman escaped serious injury yesterday when her car was clipped by a Norfolk Southern freight train at the west end of the Bancroft campus, UT police said.

Kelly McGarrigle of Middleburg Heights, Ohio, was diving southwest on West Campus Drive near Carter Hall about 1:20 a.m. when she pulled onto the grade crossing and was struck on the driver's side by the westbound train, which was traveling about 10 mph, police said.

The car had minimal damage. Ms. McGarrigle was cited for failure to stop at a railroad crossing, police said.
