Litchfield school hires new superintendent

4/24/2003

LITCHFIELD, Mich. — A day after signing an interim superintendent to finish the school year, the Litchfield Community School board offered the job of superintendent to one of its 35 candidates who sought the post.

Clair Dean, an elementary principal and K-12 curriculum director in Athens, Mich., was offered the position Tuesday, board President Donna Hecht said. The board will now work out the details of her contract.

In the meantime, retired Superintendent Max Baxter, formerly of Pittsford schools, will serve as interim superintendent. He replaces John Chandler, whose final day was Monday.

Mr. Chandler had submitted his resignation earlier this school year, citing concerns with the strapped district and likely teacher layoffs.
