Defiance historian to get college's highest honor

DEFIANCE — A longtime Defiance College faculty member, who also is the city's historian, will receive the college's highest honor at Sunday's commencement ceremonies.

Dr. Randy Buchman, a past re|cipient of the distinguished faculty award, will be honored with the Pilgrim Medal, officials said.

Dr. Buchman came to Defiance College as an assistant professor of history in 1964. In 1976, he was asked to oversee the college's alumni and church relations programs. He then became director of development and later was promoted to vice president for financial development.

In 1987, Dr. Buchman retired from the advancement office and spent the next 15 years teaching history. In 2002, he retired to give more time to his role as city historian.
