UT to recognize 5 minority alumni

Jimmy Gaines, Toledo's public utilities commissioner, will be honored with four others at the 12th annual University of Toledo Minority Alumni Affiliate Recognition of Excellence dinner in UT's Student Union at 6 tonight.

Mr. Gaines, a 1971 graduate, has worked for the city for over 20 years. Other honorees are Emerson Cole (1964), a former Ohio Civil Right Commission officer; Mildred Taylor (1965), award-winning writer; Equilla Roach (1975), former Toledo Public Schools teacher; and Clarence Walker (1950), former northwest director of the Ohio Civil Rights Commission.

John Livingston, business consultant and vice president of marketing for Marco's Pizza, will be the keynote speaker.
