Fulton County Commissioners unanimously chose Ken D. Baumgartner, a retired school principal who lives in Wauseon, last week for an unexpired term on the Fulton County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities.

“Ken's been involved out there for many years and he brings some professional experience with him as a school administrator,” Commissioner Jack Graf said. Mr. Baumgartner has an adult child receiving services from the disabilities board.

He retired as junior high principal of Swanton schools in 1999 but has been a long-term substitute guidance counselor and administrator at the district's high school this spring.

Commissioner Graf said he thought Mr. Baumgartner would carry out the wishes of the majority of the board, even if he should vote in the minority.

Commissioner Paul Barnaby said he expected Mr. Baumgartner's ability as an umpire to make a decision and to stick with it would help make him an effective board member.

He will fill the unexpired term of Kevin Beck, a German Township resident who resigned in March, because of business duties. Mr. Beck owns Kevin's Plumbing & Heating. The term expires at the end of 2004.
