Times are changing for some Perrysburg students

6/26/2003

Perrysburg High School students can grab a few extra minutes of sleep on school days in the fall, but junior high students will need to tumble out of bed earlier.

The district's previous policy of junior high students starting school before high school students is returning.

That practice, according to superintendent Mike Cline, pre-dated the new high school.

When it opened for the 2001-02 school year, the times were reversed, and when the Commodore building closed and the sixth-grade students were moved to the junior high building for the 2002-03 school year, the same schedule was kept.

But in the 2003-4 school year, junior high students will start at 7:25 a.m. and end at 2:15 p.m., and high school students will start at 7:40 a.m. and end at 2:35 p.m.

Many parents of junior high students did not like their children having to get up early to ride to the high school and then go to the junior high and be dropped off to wait for school to start.

Instead, some parents drove their children to school, which caused traffic congestion.

By switching the start times, junior high students will be dropped off first and very close to the starting time.

Parents will be notified through various communications this summer about the time changes.
