Special patrols planned to cut student drinking

Hoping to curb disruptive partying and underage drinking, authorities will spend the weekend patrolling neighborhoods where returning University of Toledo students live.

Last year during the first weekend of the fall semester, there were 102 citations and arrests for disruptive behavior and underage drinking, UT police Chief John Dauer said.

“This year we're taking a pro-active approach and letting the students know that this target enforcement is going to happen. Hopefully, we'll see a much calmer start to the school year,” he said.

UT and Toledo police and state liquor control agents will focus their patrols on Bancroft Hills between Douglas Road and Parkside Boulevard; Secor Gardens between Dorr Street and Nebraska Avenue, and

Bryne Hill Estates, Chief Dauer said.

Patrols will run from 7 p.m. to 4 a.m. Friday and Saturday.
