Bridge victims' children to get tuition at Owens

3/3/2004

The Owens Community College Foundation and the college's workplace and community services division announced yesterday that they will pay the tuition and fees to Owens for the children of the ironworkers killed Feb. 16 on the Maumee River Crossing project.

“We really wanted to put the ironworkers' families at ease when it comes to their children's higher educational needs,” said Linda Stacy, an Owens vice president.

The money will come from the interest income of an endowment fund and donations to the college designated for the ironworkers' children's education at Owens.

Should the ironworkers' children not attend Owens, the funds will be opened to others in the building trades, Ms. Stacy said.
