Washington Local mulls 3.9-mill levy

3/19/2004

Washington Local school administrators will prepare ballot language for a November levy, and the board of education will consider it next month, the board decided unanimously last night.

Treasurer Jeff Fouke said the district will propose a new, continuing 3.9-mill measure - one mill for capital improvements and 2.9 for the general fund.

If approved, it would add about $4.3 million annually to the district's roughly $65 million operating budget.

Board members and administrators called the new levy a necessity for the school district, which serves roughly 7,000 students.

Mr. Fouke said the most recent five-year forecast projected a $10.8 million deficit in the district's fiscal year 2007 budget.
