Three teachers and eight students will share $11,100 in grants and scholarships tonight at the Toledo Public Schools Foundation's "Salute to Scholars: A Celebration of Learning" at the Inverness Club.
Grantees, the amounts allocated, and the purposes are:
Sandra K. Avila, a teacher at Lincoln Academy for Boys, $700 for creating a mentoring science project with second and fourth-grade students.
Keith Balonek, a senior at Woodward High School, $1,000 to help finance his education at the Agriculture Technical Institute.
Nicole Marie Faylor, a senior at Woodward High School, $1,000 for the Terry A. Lesniewicz scholarship to help finance her studies at The Art Institute of Pittsburgh.
Melinda Franco, a senior at Bowsher High School, $1,000 for the Hilton Murphy scholarship to help finance her studies at Miami University.
Stephanie Gillette, a senior at Start High School, $1,000 for the Sky Bank scholarship to help finance her studies at the University of Findlay.
Domonique Glover, a senior at Scott High School, $1,000 to help finance his education at Morehouse College.
Steven Hagemann, a senior at Waite High School, $1,000 to help finance his education at Baldwin Wallace College.
Jocelynn Ham, a sixth-grade student at Sherman Elementary School, $2,000 for the Merrill A. Grant scholarship, to be used for expenses at a four-year college of her choice.
Martha Harmon, a teacher at Raymer Elementary School, $700, for creating a "tote-bag science project" that will allow students to do experiments at home.
Kathryn McMahon, a senior at Start High School, $1,000 to help finance her studies at Owens Community College.
Karen McNaughton, a teacher at Oakdale Elementary School, $700 for a writing project that will allow children to meet Ohio authors and poets.
