Evergreen reinstates 2 teaching jobs

METAMORA - Two teaching positions have been reinstated for the 2004-2005 school year in the Evergreen Local School District, where enrollment figures show continued growth in the middle school and at the kindergarten level.

The school board this week reinstated a sixth-grade teaching position and a kindergarten teaching position, Superintendent Kenneth Jones said. In addition, 12 aides were reinstated.

Last December, the school board cut several positions for the 2004-2005 school year in response to an anticipated $600,000 budget shortfall.

With voter approval in March of a five-year, 0.75 percent income tax, the district's financial situation has improved, Mr. Jones said, but he pointed out that the district won't receive revenue from the income tax until mid-2005.
