Scholarships/honors
7/28/2004Brad Kowalinski, a 2004 graduate of St. Francis de Sales High School, has been awarded a Greater Beneficial Union of Pittsburgh scholarship valued at $2,500 over four years. He will receive $1,000 his freshman year and $500 each year after.
Brad will attend Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio. In high school he was a member of the Latin Honor Society, the Collegium Honrum honor society, and received the President's Award.

Nicholas Bruecken of Toledo, a 2004 graduate of St. Frances de Sales High School, has received a $1,900 grant from the Horace and Letitia Newton Scholarship Fund. Nicholas will be attending Ohio University as a pre-law major. He was vice president of his high school student council all four years and played varsity basketball. In his senior year, he received the Scholar Athlete Award and the coaches' award as captain of the varsity basketball team.

James Starks II of Toledo, a recent graduate of St. Francis de Sales High School, was awarded a Trustees Scholarship in the amount of $3,000 and a Rufus S. Tarrant grant of $2,000 from Capital University in Columbus. He plans to major in radio-TV-film.
Dana Loyer of Toledo, a graduate of St. Ursula Academy, was awarded a Trustees Scholarship of $2,000 from Capital.
The Capital University scholarships are all renewable based on GPA.

Brian Jaffee of Bowling Green High School has been awarded a $750 scholarship by the Northwest District Athletic Board. A swimmer, he is one of 21 student-athletes out of 111 applicants in the district who received scholarships from the board. Brian plans to study computer science and continue swimming at Olivet College in Michigan.

Alicia Dolinski, a recent graduate of Monroe High School in Monroe, Mich., has received an Achievement Award from Valparaiso University in Indiana. The award is valued at $5,000 to $20,000 per year, renewable for three years.
Alicia was a member of the National Honor Society and will enroll in the college of business administration in the fall.

The Fulton Soil and Water Conservation District has awarded $500 scholarship to Nathanial Lange of Archbold and Kip Studer of Delta.
Nathanial is a graduate of Archbold High School who plans to study forestry at Purdue University in Indiana.
Kip, a graduate of Pike-Delta-York High School, will study environmental science at Defiance College, Ohio.
The scholarships are awarded annually to students in agricultural or natural resource-related programs.

Four $500 scholarships have been awarded to Toledo students by the Toledo Schwaben Verein, part of the German-American Festival Society, Inc.
The students, children of members, are :
Ben Burkett who will attend the University of Cincinnati; Cynthia Drescher, Loyola University in Chicago; Rebecca Langenderfer, Ohio State University, and Paul Zaborski, The University of Toledo.

Meghan Slanina of Toledo has been offered a full in-state tuition Medalist Scholarship by Ohio State University in Columbus. The award is valued at $6,551 for the coming school year and is renewable for four years. Meghan is a 2004 graduate of Notre Dame Academy.

Ashley Brough of Genoa, a dietetic technologies student at Owens Community College, has been awarded a $2,000 ECOLAB Scholarship by the American Dietetic Association Foundation.
Ashley plans to continue her education in dietetics at Eastern Michigan University. She is a 2001 graduate of Eastwood High School.

The following Bowling Green State University business administration students from the area received scholarships of $500 or more for the coming academic year.
Amanda Szabo of Swanton received the $4,000 Gilbert W. and Lottie M. Cooke Memorial Scholarship; a $1,500 Mary Jane Little Dorais Scholarship in accounting, and a $1,250 award from the Toledo chapter, Institute for Supply Management.
Rachel Allen of Wauseon was awarded the $1,000 Leo Dirmeyer Business Scholarship.
William Morrow of Toledo won the $500 William R. Hoskins Scholarship.
Kristen Stone of Toledo, received a $500 Procter & Gamble Scholarship.
Lindsay Heimrich of Waterville received a $500 Alumni Book Award.
The following students from Bowling Green also received business scholarships:
Mark Chamberlin, the Rea Accounting Excellence Award of $1,000; Christian Korsnack, a $1,000 Norman R. Seaman Entrepreneurial Scholarship; Jackline Otiso, a $500 Deloitte & Touche LLP Scholarship; Adam Snyder, a $750 Honda of America Scholarship; Tara Wagner, a Gilmore, Jasion & Mahler Scholarship of $1,000, and Jamie Weinandy, a $1,000 ISM Pharmaceutical Forum Scholarship.
April Bils of Cygnet was awarded the Chan and Young Hahn Scholarship of $1,000 and the $800 Stacey Mott Memorial Scholarship.
Rachel Sanderson of Cygnet received the $700 Warren and Thelma Waterhouse Scholarship. Jerilyn Beaverson of Pemberville received an Alyce and Michael King Scherzer Memorial Scholarship and a Garrit D. Nixon Memorial Book Award, each worth $500.
The following Perrysburg residents received scholarships: Burke Badenhop, the $2,000 Lewis F. Manhart-Perry E. Lanning Scholarship; John Blevins, a $1,500 Construction Financial Management Association Scholarship, a $1,250 award from the Toledo chapter of the National Association of Purchasing Management, and the $1,000 Janet Essex Babcock Scholarship. Michael Hoelter received a $3,000 William J. Primrose Scholarship. Matthew Ruhlin was awarded a Jim W. Parker Scholarship of $1,500.
