Findlay schools to place operating levy on ballot

8/11/2004

FINDLAY - As expected, the Findlay school board agreed Monday to place a three-year, 4.9-mill operating levy on the Nov. 2 ballot.

Superintendent Robert Lotz said the additional tax dollars are needed to maintain programs and staff. The levy would generate about $3.87 million, and Mr. Lotz said about $1.2 million of that would be used for building repair and maintenance, including furnace and roof projects at the elementary buildings and high school.

The board has approved $1.78 million in budget cuts for the coming school year, including the elimination through attrition of nine full-time staff members. Some of the cuts could be restored if the levy passes, Mr. Lotz said, but more cuts would be made if it fails.

Meanwhile, district teachers are to vote Friday on a tentative contract. Terms of the proposal for the Findlay Education Association have not been disclosed.
