Owens police academy to graduate 50 students

Fifty students will graduate from the Basic Peace Officer Academy at Owens Community College tomorrow.

The ceremony is set for 7 p.m. in the Center for Fine and Performing Arts on the college s Perrysburg Township campus.

As part of the seven-month program, Owens police academy students take courses in patrol operations, firearms, defensive tactics, and criminal investigation.

After completing the academy, students become eligible for certification as an Ohio peace officer, and course work may be applied toward an associate degree in law enforcement.
