TIFFIN - An administrator at Heidelberg College has been named to lead the Tiffin City Schools while the Seneca County district searches for a new superintendent.

The Tiffin school board voted Tuesday night to hire Jim Getz as interim superintendent, effective Sept. 1. Mr. Getz, who is director of graduate studies and education at Heidelberg, will replace Denise Callihan, who is leaving Tiffin on Sept. 1 to become superintendent of the Lancaster, Ohio, school system.

The board agreed to pay Mr. Getz $362 per day to lead the district until a permanent superintendent is hired. Mr. Getz was interim president of Heidelberg from July, 2002, to July, 2003, and was superintendent of the Hopewell-Loudon school district from 1990 to 1996.

At Tuesday night's meeting, the school board also passed a resolution of necessity to place a five-year, 5-mill operating levy on the Nov. 2 ballot. The board acted in case a count of provisional ballots next week overturns the apparent 22-vote victory for the 5 mill issue in the Aug. 3 special election.
