Genoa board decides on 5-mill renewal levy

8/18/2004

GENOA The Genoa school board yesterday placed a five-year, 5-mill renewal levy for operations on the Nov. 2 ballot.

The board acted after the narrow defeat Aug. 3 of a 5.25-mill continuing operating levy that would have raised $809,000 a year in new revenue for the district. The board decided it would be more prudent to put the renewal before voters, Superintendent Dennis Mock said.

The renewal levy, passed three previous times, raises nearly $300,000 a year and costs about $175 for a homeowner whose house is valued at $100,000. It is due to expire at the end of 2005.
