McGovern to speak Sept. 9 at UT law school

Former Sen. George McGovern will discuss The Underlying Causes of Terrorism Sept. 9 at the University of Toledo College of Law as the law school s 23rd annual Cannon Lecturer.

Mr. McGovern is best known as the 1972 Democratic nominee for president, running unsuccessfully against Richard Nixon. As a B-24 bomber pilot in World War II, Mr. McGovern flew 35 combat missions in Europe, earning the Distinguished Flying Cross.

A South Dakotan, he was elected to Congress in 1956 and re-elected in 1958. He was elected to the Senate in 1962 and re-elected in 1968 and 1974.

In June, Mr. McGovern was awarded the Legion of Honor medal at a ceremony in France. His speech at UT is free.
