UT approves $400,000 for athletic project

The University of Toledo board of trustees yesterday approved a $400,000 increase in the budget for a project to upgrade the track, tennis courts, and soccer field on campus.

Officials said bids to complete the improvements, originally pegged at a cost of $1 million that would be covered by a private donation to UT, call for an increase to $1.4 million. In response, the gift was increased to $1.1 million, and the trustees agreed to fund the remainder from university sources.

The track and tennis courts are on the Bancroft Street campus, while the soccer field is on the Scott Park campus.

Also yesterday, the trustees approved spending $375,000 to replace the roof on the computer center. The current roof is 20 years old, and leaks are threatening computer equipment inside, according to officials.
