Teachers to vote on 'final offer' from Swanton

9/1/2004

SWANTON - The union representing Swanton teachers will meet today to vote on a contract proposal that the Swanton Local Board of Education designated last week as its "final offer," a union official said yesterday.

As recently as Friday, Judy Teague, vice president of the Swanton Education Association, described the district proposal as "wholly lopsided."

But the proposal will now be put to a rank-and-file vote during a meeting Ms. Teague said will begin at 3:30 p.m. in Trinity United Methodist Church here.

Should the vote be negative, she said, the union is "going to explore all our options," including a possible strike. But under Ohio law, the union must give at least 10 days' notice before its members may walk out.
