Student of the Week: Kevin Bilbrey

Monroe High School

Kevin Bilbrey, a senior from Monroe, plans to attend the University of Missouri-Columbia to study journalism and creative writing. He hopes to write novels, work for a national magazine or newspaper, and/or write political commentaries. Kevin enjoys English, journalism and choir and carries a 4.0 grade point average.

He is a Monroe County Education Association Academic All-Star, National Merit semi-finalist and Leadership Monroe participant. He has been recognized in Who's Who Among American High School Students and has been published in Young Authors.

Kevin is a member of the National Honor Society, concert choir, drama club and Teen Outreach Theatre. He is the in-depth editor for the Lotus Leaf, and has volunteered as a reading tutor.

Kevin is a member of the Monroe Christian Missionary and Alliance Church choir and youth group and is president of the Youth Advisory Council. He has campaigned for Hazards of Tobacco.

"Kevin's contributions to his church, community and school during his high school career are numerous," said assistant principal Ryan McLeod. "He never sits on his laurels but is always looking for new ways to learn and serve his community."

Kevin is the son of Larry and Donna Bilbrey.
