Ohio mayors converge on Toledo

3/10/2005

Mayors of eight Ohio cities will meet in Toledo today for a five-hour roundtable discussion on the mayoral role in public education.

Akron Mayor Don Plusquellic, president of the U.S. Conference of Mayors, will lead the group. The mayors are expected to focus on school finance and its effect on education.

Also attending the session at the Radisson Hotel, which is not open to the public, will be Toledo Mayor Jack Ford, Cleveland Mayor Jane Campbell, Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman, Dayton Mayor Rhine McLin, East Cleveland Mayor Saratha Goggins, Springfield Mayor Warren Copeland, and University Heights Mayor Beryl Rothschild.

The Ohio Mayor's Education Roundtable is the only one of its kind that brings together mayors of a single state for a series of discussions concerning public education. It is funded by grants from several Ohio foundations, including The KnowledgeWorks Foundation, The Cleveland Foundation, The Gund Foundation, and the Martha Holden Jennings Foundation.
