FREMONT The Fremont Board of Education has hired one of the district s sixth-grade teachers as the next principal of Lutz Elementary School.

The board on Tuesday night approved a two-year contract with Anthony Walker, who teaches at Otis Elementary School. Mr. Walker will be paid $56,375 a year.

He replaces William Krumnow, who is retiring at the end of the school year after 35 years with the Fremont City Schools.

District officials told the board that the recently announced closing of TRW Automotive s brake-components plant in Kingsway, just north of Fremont, could cost the district up to $400,000 a year in personal property, real estate, and income taxes. The plant is scheduled to close at the end of 2006, putting 270 employees out of work.
