4/20/2005

Jason Hawley, a senior from Samaria, plans to attend Rice University majoring in chemical engineering. He enjoys calculus and English and carries a 4.5 grade point average. One of Jason's long-term goals is to bike across the United States.

He received pre-calculus recognition from the Greater Toledo Council of Math Teachers; is Michigan High School Athletic Association Scholar Athlete in cross-country and is the reigning 2005 Bedford Mr. GQ. Jason is an Eagle Scout with eight palms and is a member of the National Honor Society.

Jason volunteers as a counselor for a Hispanic youth camp in Haleyville, Ala., and with the Monroe Habitat for Humanity. He is a liturgist for the Grace United Methodist Church. He runs cross-country and track and field and is active in musical theater.

"Jason is a multi-gifted, well-rounded student with an amazing wealth of knowledge," said advanced placement English teacher Sandra J. Studer. "His warmth and dry sense of humor account for his popularity among students and teachers alike."

Jason is the son of Wayne and Pamela Hawley.
