College of Law students at the University of Toledo have received two first-place rankings in the fourth International Competitions for Online Dispute Resolution.

Two-year law student Tim van Tuinen won two gold medals: The first was for being the most effective mediator in the online mediation competition.

He won his second gold medal along with fellow second-year law student Patrick Fitzgerald in the category of most effective advocates in the online negotiation competition.

Law Prof. Ben Davis, who helped to create the competitions, said yesterday that this was the second year UT law students participated in the events, but the first time they've received gold medals.

Law students from 20 law schools on five continents competed in online negotiation, mediation, arbitration, and litigation over the past few months. Results of the online litigation and arbitration competitions will be announced in mid-May.

Students compete and are evaluated anonymously. They were assigned problems online by several organizations and professors, both nationally and internationally.
