Perrysburg school board looks at future options

5/24/2005

Perrysburg Board of Education members last night said they may want to hire more staff members or approve a redistricting plan this summer to ease overcrowding in the district s elementary schools.

Earlier this month, the board voted 3-2 against a proposed redistricting plan aimed at reducing elementary class sizes.

The plan was tied to the idea of removing fifth graders from the elementary schools and constructing a new school building, but the board decided it needed more community input on how to deal with increasing enrollment in the long-term.

Last night, some board members said they would consider a new redistricting plan linked to a firm long-term facilities plan.

The district has scheduled public forums on the long-term plan for Thursday and Tuesday.

The need for redistricting hasn t gone away, board member Walter Edinger said. Let s not close the door on redistricting for next year.
