Bedford school board hires superintendent

6/3/2005

LAMBERTVILLE - The Bedford Board of Education last night approved the appointment of Jon White as the school district's superintendent.

Mr. White, 58, has been the acting superintendent since Jim Groebel's three-year contract was not renewed in June, 2004. The salary for Mr. White, who is being paid $106, 602 under the terms of his current one-year contract, has not been decided.

In a 6-1 decision, the board voted to appoint Mr. White. Shawna Smith, the lone dissenter, said that while she supported Mr. White, she could not vote for him because she disagreed with the school board's process in hiring the superintendent.

In other business, the board approved the ratification of the Bedford Transportation Association contract, which covers the period between July 1, 2004 to June 30, 2007.
