School chief picked for Pike-Delta-York

6/15/2005

DELTA, Ohio - Robin Rayfield, a former Pike-Delta-York Local Schools administrator and board member, was named superintendent of the district last night.

In a 3-1 vote, the board hired Mr. Rayfield, effective Aug. 1, under a two-year contract that will pay him $85,000 a year.

Mr. Rayfield, who left the district last year when he was hired as the Swanton Local Schools superintendent, was one of three finalists for the post.

A Delta resident, he was among nearly 20 applicants for the job. Other finalists were J. Richard Gieringer, superintendent of the Stryker Local School District, and Rodney Jenkins, principal of Battery Creek High School in Beaufort, S.C.

Last August Mr. Rayfield signed a two-year employment contract with the Swanton board. A former Pike-Delta-York high school principal, he resigned from the district last fall to devote his time and energy to his Swanton duties.

In other action last night, the board approved the resignation of Superintendent Russ Griggs who is leaving the district when his one-year contract expires July 31.

Mr. Griggs, who retired as superintendent of Evergreen Local schools before becoming the Pike-Delta-York superintendent, initially had a two-year contract. When he agreed in December, 2003 to stay for another year, Mr. Griggs indicated he would leave at the end of the contract.
