A University of Toledo physics professor was among those honored yesterday with a 2005 Governor's Award for Excellence in Energy Efficiency.
Al Compaan received his award for installing solar panels and other energy-efficient devices at his western Lucas County home as well as for driving a battery-operated truck powered largely by self-made electricity generated by those panels.
Other recipients included the Ford Motor Co.'s Lima Engine Plant for its geothermal cooling system, and the Ohio Municipal Electric Generating Agency Joint Venture-6, for the American Municipal Power/Green Mountain Energy wind farm west of Bowling Green. The latter is Ohio's first utility-scale wind farm.
