11/23/2005

HURON, Ohio A second group of unionized employees in Huron City Schools has voted to authorize a strike against the district if no negotiated contract settlement is reached.

Members of the Huron Classified Employees Association voted Monday to give the union s bargaining team authority to call a strike against the Erie County school district. The association represents 57 clerical, transportation, mechanical, custodial, maintenance, and food service employees in the Huron district.

Union President Marta Esposito said in a statement that members are concerned about the district s declared intention to impose its last offer on the teachers. Huron school Superintendent Fred Fox could not be reached for comment yesterday.

Last week, the 90-member Huron Education Association, which represents teachers and other certified employees, voted to authorize a strike. Members of both unions have been without contracts since the summer.
