Student of the Week: Rebecca Vail

Rebecca Vail, a senior from Toledo, plans to pursue a bachelor of fine arts degree in musical theater at a four-year institution. She enjoys science research, literature, and orchestra and has a 4.6 grade-point average.

Rebecca is the recipient of the Roy C. Start Hall of Fame scholarship and the gold award in Russian Spoken Olympiada. She earned top ratings in orchestral and voice performance from the Ohio Music Education Association, received a varsity letter in tennis, and is co-captain of the team. She was inducted into the National Honor Society and the Slavic Honor Society.

She is a peer mediator, peer assistant leader, and member of Mu Alpha Theta, the Russian club, orchestra, student government, and the school musical.

Rebecca helped build two houses for Habitat for Humanity; participated in a mission trip to Raynosa, Mexico with the Monroe Street United Methodist Church; is team leader for the 2005 citywide water testing group; is a dancer for the Daryl Jervis Dance Studio, and is member of her church choir and youth group.

"Rebecca is an outstanding dependable and vibrant person," said Lori Reffert, assistant principal of activities. "She will be successful in whatever endeavors she pursues."

Rebecca is the daughter of James and Nancy Vail.
