Penta board OKs $16M in construction contracts

2/23/2006

The Penta Career Center board of education yesterday awarded $16 million in contracts for construction of its new building.

The board awarded Miller Brothers Construction, of Archbold, Ohio, $4,630,000 for site work; National Precast, of Roseville, Mich., $4,485,000 for precast concrete, and Ohio Steel Industries, of Summit Station, Ohio, $7,282,000 for structural steel and miscellaneous metal work.

Nine of the remaining 10 bid packages could be awarded next month, and the board may rebid the contract for test and balance work. The project s total cost is estimated at $90.6 million.

The board did not accept alternates to two of the bids that would have added a lawn irrigation system and a screening wall. Tom Mercer of Rudolph Libbe, the construction manager for the project, said those items could be added later.

The 522,000-square-foot facility is being built in Perrysburg Township near I-75. It will serve high school students from 16 districts: Anthony Wayne, Bowling Green, Benton-Carroll-Salem, Eastwood, Elmwood, Genoa, Lake, Maumee, North Baltimore, Northwood, Otsego, Perrysburg, Rossford, Springfield, Swanton, and Woodmore.
