Woodmore school board looks for ways to cut costs

2/28/2006

WOODVILLE - The Woodmore Local Board of Education needs to cut $200,000 from its operating budget for next academic year and is looking to the staff for suggestions.

During a special meeting yesterday, board members discussed several cost-savings measures that could materialize on bus insurance, diesel fuel, and purchasing office supplies from a different company.

In May, voters will consider a four-year, $916,100 emergency property tax levy for operations that would be equivalent to about 6.9 mills, Treasurer Anne Arnold said. If a levy does not pass, she said the district will be pushed into a deficit in the 2007-08 school year.

In other action, the board changed its regularly scheduled meeting to 7 p.m. March 27 because of a board member's scheduling conflict.
