Penta board ends teacher's shop job

4/13/2006

The Penta Career Center Board of Education last night accepted the resignation of a teacher who took a registration sticker from a vehicle being serviced by the Senior Auto Collision Repair program and put it on his own vehicle, which was not registered.

Paul Walter, a teacher in the auto body program for about 20 years, pleaded no contest in Sylvania Municipal Court to unauthorized use of property, a fourth-degree misdemeanor, March 27 and was sentenced to 30 days in jail, which were suspended. He also was fined $250, according to court records.

His resignation was effective Feb. 8, the date the board first voted to consider his termination. He had been suspended without pay since then.

In other business, the board awarded another contract for its new building and approved re-advertising for two more contracts.

Great Lakes Hotel Supply Co. of Detroit was awarded the $1,385,185 food service equipment contract, including a walk-in cooler for the floral area.

The school will re-advertise for bids for the temperature control system as well as test and balance work. Previous bids were rejected because of bid procedure problems.

Utility work began last week. Steel construction is expected to begin by the end of May.
