Genoa schools seek levy OK

7/19/2006

GENOA - Voters living in the Genoa Area Local School District may consider a renewal levy in November so the board will continue to have funding for permanent improvements.

The Board of Education voted 3-0 at its regularly scheduled meeting yesterday morning to ask the Ottawa County auditor to certify a five-year, 1.35-mill renewal levy on the Nov. 7 ballot. Board President Ernie Cottrell and board Vice President Al Brown were absent.

If passed, the levy will raise $132,000 a year and will cost a $100,000 homeowner about $25 annually.

Levy funds will be used for roofing, computers, blacktop, and other similar items that have a life of five years or more, Superintendent Dennis Mock said.

The levy was first passed in 1991 and renewed in 1997 and 2001.
