Owens Community College said yesterday that it will serve up an associate's degree in culinary arts this fall at its Perrysburg Township campus.

The Ohio Board of Regents recently approved the program, which would feed a growing restaurant industry.

"Due to the ever-increasing popularity of the acclaimed Food Network and other cooking shows, the perception of working within the food industry has been transformed into a rewarding career field," said Tekla Madaras, chairman of dietetic-hotel, restaurant, and institution technologies at Owens.

Students would learn about international cuisine, healthy cooking, advanced baking and pastries, and wine.
