Maumee schools OK lease for T-Mobile cell tower

10/3/2006

Maumee City Schools entered into a lease agreement with T-Mobile last night, one that could create a steady flow of income for the school district.

The school board discussed and approved, by a 3-2 vote, leasing a 2,500-square-foot piece of its property on Saco Street for $1,500 a month to the wireless communications company for the purpose of building a cellular tower.

The lease agreement, which is for five years with five, five-year extensions, calls for an annual 3 percent increase in rent payment.

The tower will not exceed 175 feet in height, and will be placed between Maumee High School's football stadium and the railroad tracks that cross Key Street.

T-Mobile must next undergo site plan reviews and secure a building permit from the City of Maumee before it can begin construction, Allen Jones, a company representative, said.
