BOWLING GREEN Bowling Green State University has received a $1.06 million grant from the federal government to cultivate education programs about democracy for Lebanon and Morocco.

Over the course of three years, the grant from the U.S. Agency for International Development will bring teachers from those predominantly Muslim nations to BGSU s International Democratic Education Institute.

As with previous partnerships with Poland, South Africa, and Ukraine, BGSU will help Lebanese and Moroccan civics teachers form classroom materials and methodologies for teaching democratic principles to high school students and education majors in college.

The U.S. is supporting these efforts, in a sense, to develop and sustain democracy around the world, said Alden Craddock, a BGSU professor and the institute s director.
