A pair of gifts totaling $1 million will enable the University of Toledo to support students and faculty participating in medical missions abroad and open a permanent hall of fame honoring those who have improved health worldwide, the university announced today.

The estate of Lawrence V. Conway, UT professor emeritus of finance, has donated $500,000 toward healthcare efforts.

Glenn Geelhoed, professor of surgery, international medical education, microbiology, immunology and tropical medicine at George Washington University Medical Center, agreed to match the gift.

Dr. Geelhoed will receive an honorary doctor of science degree from UT at its fall commencement exercise on Dec. 16 in Savage Hall.

UT held a press conference this afternoon to provide further details about the combined donations.
